Why we are different

We believe Green Light is unique and differs from other Pharmacies because of the following founding principles -

  • Our primary activity is to deliver healthcare services to the community. We are not "retailers" and our Pharmacies are geared towards providing services that are "person centred" and "community focussed".
  • Prevention of illness is at the forefront of everything we do. Maintaining general wellbeing is as important as treating and managing illness.
  • Our organisation is 100% owned by our pharmacists and staff (ie. along the lines of an employee co-operative). If someone leaves Green Light they are obligated to sell their shareholding. New employees are provided with the option of employee ownership to enable them to have a personal interest in Green Light and the services we provide. Shares cannot be held by those who are not involved with Green Light.
  • All salaries including those of the Directors are set at what a Pharmacist or Technician would reasonably expect as a professional. "Fat cat" salaries will never be paid. Dividends are only paid as part of this "professional" salary and are not paid extra to this. Any excess profits will be reinvested into the community or to bring Green Light to other communities.
  • Building Community capacity to look after its own health is a core aim of Green Light. We attempt to recruit locally and build partnerships with local neighbourhood organisations. Sustainability of Green Light and a "healthy community" structure is an important goal.
