Questions About Consultations
What we have to say about your health and well being

What does an appointment cost?

All our appointments are free and you only pay for the products/services you receive.

How do I book an appointment?

Appointments should be booked directly with each clinic (see “find your closest clinic”). You can also book appointments online via our Booking System.

Do I pay a deposit for my appointment?

We take a £10 deposit when booking an appointment – this is refunded from the cost of any vaccines or malaria medication you receive. The deposit is non-refundable if the appointment is cancelled less than 24 hours in advance or if you do not receive any vaccines or malaria medication during the consultation.

Who do I see in my appointment?

When you come for an appointment you will have a one-to-one consultation with one of our highly-qualified travel pharmacists or nurses.

What happens during my appointment?

During your consultation, our travel pharmacist or nurse will carry out a risk assessment with you. We will ask for a detailed medical history and information about your trip so that we can work out:

  • what vaccines you should receive
  • whether you should take medication to prevent malaria
  • any other steps you should take to minimise the risk of you becoming ill while you are abroad

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring as much information as you can with you. We are happy to help you find information about your destination(s) if you are uncertain about the risks involved with travelling there. If you have a record of your past vaccination history, you should also bring this along with you.

What should I wear for the appointment?

Most vaccines are given to the upper arm, a little bit below the shoulder (top of the thigh in small babies). Please wear loose clothing that makes it easy to give the vaccine and will reduce any discomfort.

How long does a consultation last?

Our appointment slots are 20 minutes, which is usually sufficient for mostconsultations. If possible, please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time so that you can complete any relevant paperwork before the appointment starts.

What happens if I am travelling last-minute?

It is better to plan your travel vaccines with plenty of time before your departure date. There are still plenty of options if this is not possible. Work plans, last-minute special offers and family circumstances can all mean that you need to travel with little notice. Get in touch and we can help to make sure that you the best level of cover in the time available.

My itinerary is quite complex. Is this a problem?

Everyone we see has slightly different plans, timescales and requirements. Our travel pharmacists and nurses have lots of experience in dealing with complex travel queries and we can help you if you are:

  • travelling to lots of different countries or parts of countries
  • planning an adventurous trip
  • working with NGOs, charities or volunteering
  • travelling abroad for a medical elective
  • going abroad for short-term or long-term work assignments, possibly at short notice

For people with complex itineraries we suggest you book a double length appointment so that we have enough time to answer all your questions and make sure you have the best level of cover.

How do I book a family/group in?

For family or group bookings, please contact your closest branch directly with the number of people to have an appointment. Please note, each traveler will need their own consultation.
